The Italian Report is composed by two sections. The first section provides an overview of literature and scientific references to analyze the birth of “youth violence” as an explanatory category and object of study, and its cultural and epistemological construction. The current situation of young Italians, in the framework of the current economic crisis, is investigated. Within this section is also proposed a reflection on the links between the cities design and urban insecurity (real or perceived).
These reflections introduce the second section of the report, where the Action-Research carried out in Pescara Railway Station and focused on youth distress and social exclusion, is presented.
Research hypothesis, methodologies and the area of implementation of the research are introduced, with the help of graphics, maps and photos. Results of the observation work and the interviews with relevant stakeholders, key informants and young people involved in exclusion processes or violent acts, are reported.
The work concludes with an overview of the Action-Research findings and the proposal of social activities to be implemented to promote young people and other social actors involvement, in order to respond to the problems highlighted by the research activities.
