Friday 1st March at 18.00 On the Road Association will present the poetry-reading “I write therefore I am” at the Aurum Exhibition Centre of Pescara.
The event will be an opportunity to propose to all citizens the most significant results of creative writing workshops, organized in the framework of the project “Violence in Transit” and realized at multi-functional Centre “Train de Vie” of Pescara.
The writings have been written by persons involved in different distressed background. Some of them are homeless persons, others experienced exploitation and trafficking. A number of them are young people involved in drug consumption, prostitution and other urban deviance related phenomena. Young persons involved in the creative writing workshops and, consequently, in the poetry reading, have been outreached in the Pescara Station Area by the social workers of the Project “Violence in Transit” during the implementation of the action-research and the social interventions (respectively Action 1 and 2 of the Project). They have been contacted and invited to join Train de Vie Centre activities. The poetry-reading will be an opportunity for the persons involved to express their resources and expertise, and for the public to experience emotions and feelings coming from people they normally consider just as drop out and problem makers.
The title chosen, “I write therefore I am” , is aimed at highlight the importance of affirming their own existence, in a world where marginalized people move invisible through the streets of our cities.
Their writings are the proof that they have not abandoned their life and their history. It is a proof of their desire to create new relationships, to communicate, to feel alive.
Specifically, the event will include reading and dramatization of some writings of workshop participants by the director and actor Lorenzo Marvelli in collaboration with actress Ida D’Andrea. The actors will be accompanied by a pianist, a guitarist and the voice of Ada Millemaci..
Moreover, during the event, representations will be staged, as a result of workshops on theater (another activity of the Project “Violence in Transit”), in which operators and users of the center will participate.
To further promote the participation and awareness of the local community, the texts of the poetry-reading will be published in the local newspaper “Il Centro” in the days preceding the event.
On the Road has activated, again as part of the project “Violence in Transit”, a Visual anthropology Workshop, whose results will be presented in a photographic exhibition at the premises of Pescara station.
