The need of new models of special and community welfare, such as those experimented within “Violence in Transit”, were the fil rouge of the Final Conference of the project, which took place in Rome last Friday, 4th October 2013, at “Spazio Europa”, the seat of the European Commission Representation in Italy.
Since the intervention of Rita Visini, Social Affairs Councellor of the Regione Lazio, the analysis of the project’s results focused on the necessity to foster the empowerment of marginalised people and their participation to the community life, instead of limiting the social intervention to mere assistance and, as for the risks of violence, repression.
Vincenzo Castelli, the project coordinator, picked up on Visini’s intervention to introduce his comparative analysis, enriched by Jordi Estivill’s sociological comments: the station as a mirror of the city, where social interactions can anticipate positive cooperation among social groups.
The local coordinators Fabio Sorgoni, Sérgio Aires and Eduard Mateus presented the local actions, which were further commented by the representatives of the transportation companies, in the roundtable animated by the Italian journalist Luce Tommasi.
At the end of the conference Europe Consulting Onlus presented the innovative final report, an ibook containing the project final outputs and the numerous photos and videos, which are the most interesting documents of the actions carried out by “Violence in Transit” partners.
